Literary Element in The Giver

In The Giver, many literary elements were used. One that stuck out to me was characterization. In every book there has to be not only just a few characters that are thrown in. There also has to be personalities that go with the character. Most of the time, the main characters are given an extended background but usually the secondary ones get personalities too. A perfect example is Asher. Asher is the type of person that would rather have fun than anything else. It even states that in Jonas' opinion, Asher is very laid back and is such fun. This detail was followed throughout most of the book, which proves that charatcterization exists in The Giver.
